New Christian Action Film "Smuggler’s Ransom" Release Date Announced
Noa/Rice Digital has sold the distribution rights for "Smuggler’s Ransom" to Cloud Ten Pictures. Cloud Ten will be releasing the film nationally on June 6th through its Cloud Ten Church Cinemas program, followed by a DVD release on June 10th. "Smuggler’s Ransom" has screened at multiple film festivals across the United States and has received multiple award nominations including "Best Supporting Actress" and "Best Produced Screenplay."
Journalist Hanna Rosin commented that the film, "keeps your heart racing," and Alex Harris, of the "Rebelution" movement, praises star Anthony Tyler Quinn’s performance as "superb!" Quinn, who’s resume includes roles on TV shows like "Melrose Place" and "Boy Meets World," believes that "filmmakers who are Christians should make the best films" and was thrilled to be a part of "Smuggler’s Ransom" after first reading the screenplay, co-written by Brandon Rice and Daniel Noa based on a short story by Steve Losee.
The film was independently produced by Noa and Rice in the summer of 2006 on a micro-budget. Principle photography was a short five days in the Santa Clarita Valley and Lancaster, CA. After the film was completed in the spring of 2007, Noa and Rice approached several Christian companies, including Cloud Ten, with the film. "We're excited to be working with Cloud Ten Pictures; clearly one of the leaders in the Christian film industry" comments Rice, who is currently working on his second feature "No Greater Love." "I’m just glad that people are finally going to be able to see it," comments Noa, "we put a lot of hard work into getting this film from script to screen and I am thrilled that it’s going to be viewed and discussed in people’s homes around the country. As a filmmaker, I can think of no better ending for ‘Smuggler’s Ransom.’"

From the desk of André van Heerden CEO – Cloud Ten Pictures
Cloud Ten Pictures' mandate is quite simple and direct: find and produce quality, entertaining films that have strong Christian themes and distribute them to share the Gospel message.
What is simple to write is not as simple to accomplish. Over the past dozen years we have in fact only found two other independent films that met these goals. Many others were entertaining but lacked a Christian theme. Others had Christian messages but simply weren't entertaining.
I'm thrilled to announce that we've finally found another film to distribute! SMUGGLER'S RANSOM will be the first NEW RELEASE for the ground-breaking CLOUD TEN CHURCH CINEMAS. ![]()
On October 21, 2005 Cloud Ten Pictures released LEFT BEHIND: WORLD AT WAR into over 3200 individual churches for an opening weekend. On that same weekend Universal's DOOM, opened on 3044 screens. It brought in $15 million dollars at the box office. While we never tried for the dollar box office of DOOM, we did accomplish something far greater. There were over 2000 accounts of people stepping forward and accepting Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior in altar calls following the film. Cloud Ten is looking to increase that box office of saved souls.
SMUGGLER'S RANSOM is a great find. While made on what I like to call a "faith and prayer" budget, it has a powerful story of redemption told against the backdrop of a spy-thriller. It reminds me of the first features Cloud Ten produced and I know the filmmakers, Brandon Rice and Daniel Noa have a great future ahead of them. In fact we're already talking to Brandon about another picture: "No Greater Love"!
So make sure to tell others about SMUGGLER'S RANSOM's up-coming national release in CLOUD TEN CHURCH CINEMAS. And get other Churches to join too! Opening weekend is June 6th! There's no easier way to spread the Word than by inviting someone to watch an entertaining film.
Sincerely in Christ,
André van Heerden – CEO, Cloud Ten Pictures |
